My daddy sang the blues,
Painted mom purple, yellow, green.
When he sang to you,
Teardrops were never to be seen.
Well, he clawed at the night
Til the blue man made him say goodbye
But it wasn’t over, our fight
It made the child inside me die.

When I was young I was told
Never let him get ahold
Of my smile, of my mind
Cuz then he makes you blind
Momma gave us a phone
Told us to never keep alone.
But it wasn't over, our fight
It made the child inside me die.
